ADD/ADHD
I have been a NYS certified Special Education teacher for 12 years. I have taught students with various disabilities and learning challenges. Students with ADD/ADHD have been successful in my class as I teach them how to self-monitor off-task behaviors, allow for breaks and student choice to complete assignments. I praise student successes and have implemented behavior modification systems to help students track their progress both academic and emotional.

Part of being qualified as a NYS special education teacher is participating in autism workshops. During this time I have learned to modify my instruction to allow for learning differences that may appear with students with Asperger's along with students who may fall elsewhere in the autism spectrum. I often allow for multiple modalities to complete assignments and projects. I offer a student choice to assess their knowledge, and provide opportunities to challenge them while addressing their learning styles and individual needs.
